Bowker MINI Blackburn and Ribble Rivers Trust collaborated to tackle the invasive Himalayan Balsam at Haggs Wood in Burnley. We spent a day helping to improve river flow and reduce flood risks on local river banks.

The plant species rapidly takes over riverbanks, and its aggressive growth displaces native plants, leading to reduced biodiversity and soil erosion. This can adversely impact the water quality of the river.<br /><br />The event saw 10 volunteer staff joining forces to improve the local environment and they conquered it with great success! After clearing as much of the area as possible, the Team got the opportunity to learn about the significance of different tree and plant species in the environment whilst exploring the woodland.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
